The ancient city’s main sites are on Prines and Nisi hills, near the modern villages of Archaia Eleutherna and Eleutherna. At Katsivelos, on Prines’ east foot, Greek walls, Roman buildings, and a Christian Basilica over a Greek cemetery were found. The Basilica, dedicated to Archangel Michael, dates to AD 420-450 and was destroyed in the 7th century. It is 18 km from the hotel and open daily 08:00–20:00 (except Tuesdays).

St. Francesco was the main temple of the Franciscan Monastery. It is a single-aisle basilica with a wooden roof, a transverse aisle, and two side chapels. The northeast side has a crossed vault; the southeast side features marble arches and a Corinthian-style doorframe. During Turkish rule, it became an “Imaret” (poor shelter) and later a cultural center until 1996. Recently renovated, it now houses the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection of Rethymno Prefecture. It is 14 km from the hotel.
