Agreco Celebrations

Join the special events which are a celebration of a variety of seasonal farming tasks. When the work is done, everyone is invited to join the Cretan celebration lunch.

Our guests are greeted by the hosts and taken on a tour of the farm (olive oil press, threshing area, wine press etc.). During the tour, they are invited to take part in a seasonal activity. Together with the trained farm-workers, they learn about the local methods and either take part or take photographs!

In the old olive press they load olives under the stones to produce the ‘liquid gold’ of Crete; they ride on the threshing board as the donkey pulls it around the threshing area; watch the grain pour into the watermill and come out as stone-ground flour; learn how to make fresh village bread and bake it in an outdoor oven; tread the grapes and taste the freshly-made, warm raki as it drips from the still.

When the farm work is over, we meet in the Agreco square where we visit the workshops, chapel and farm store.

Finally, feeling like real farmhands, tired, but delighted with their newly found skills, they sit at long tables and are invited to savour the famous Cretan specialties. The menu includes organic farm produce like quail, suckling pig with potatoes roasted in the wood-burning oven, steamed wild vegetables, salads, fruit preserves, etc.
