There are many spas in the southern Mediterranean, but none quite like the one at Cape Sounio. This is something you realize even before stepping through the vault-style bronze door.

Inspired by Dr No, one of the early James Bond blockbusters, the octagon-shaped spa has glass exterior walls that create the illusion of being outdoors. The lounge, decorated in stone and metal ores from Sounio’s rich veins, is furnished with wicker seats set low to the ground creating the perfect ambience for relaxing between treatments or simply enjoying a nutrient-rich fresh-squeezed juice and salad while basking in the glorious view.

Scented candles, soft recessed lighting, and soothing chakra-balancing music enhance the transition from the expansiveness of the lounge to the intimacy of the private treatment area. Muted pastels and pale, creamy earth tones create the calming backdrop in the massage suites.

Each of the seven rooms is individually decorated to create small havens that enhance for therapies ranging from Shiatsu, aromatherapy, reflexology and lymph drainage massages to svedana, hot stone therapy, and affusion. Organic plants and extracts from rare aromatic plants grown in the wild are featured ingredients in many of the treatments.

But the one that truly pays proper homage to the sea-god is the Poseidon Elixir, inspired by the grooming rituals of the Classical-era beauties. Finely-ground olive seeds, natural sea salt, and a rich clay are applied in successive scrubs and rubs, combined with sessions in the sauna, to remove toxins. The sequence culminates with a 45-minute four-hands massage with an all-natural deep-penetrating cream with pear and dandelion extracts that leaves the skin silky-smooth and glowing.
